In the world of e-commerce, the question gets asked: “What is productive article marketing?” The answer is not nearly as simple as the question. In a way, it is like the story of the elephant that was examined by six men, blind from birth.

The first blind guy was touching the tail and he offered his opinion that an elephant is rope-like. A different man said that an elephant is like a pillar. (He had been touching one of the legs.) Then a third guy says he can’t believe how wrong they both could be. He had been feeling one of the tusks, so his take on the subject was that an elephant is like a pipe — a solid pipe.

A man who was feeling one of the animal’s ears as he spoke, said that the first 3 men were obviously inebriated because an elephant is like a flat, large hand fan you can use to cool yourself on a hot day. The guy who had just been holding the trunk said they all were crazy, because clearly, anyone can tell that an elephant is like a tree branch. The last man, who was touching the belly of this huge beast said that he feels sorry for the other five men who are not able to tell that this animal is like a wall.

Then a wise man who was among them said that they all were partially right, but none of them had the full appreciation of the elephant. Well, article marketing is similar in the sense that some people think that article marketing is the thing that you do to make sales commissions from their affiliate websites.

Still, a different online entrepreneur might tell you that article marketing is for selling products that you own, because you get to keep every penny of profit yourself. Yet somebody else could say that the only reason they are interested in it is for branding purposes. Then another one might stipulate that the real reason for doing it is to establish yourself around the world as an expert in your chosen field; a true authority.

The next woman might step up and state that article marketing is the domain of newbies who are dead broke. She says it is also called, “bum marketing”, for that reason. You are able to do it like a bum, for free.

So now, you can see that there are easily as many aspects to this method of doing business online as there are parts of an elephant. So, who is the person to really say which is the right way?

Perhaps the wise man who was there with the blind men would have an answer. He might say that to answer the question, “What is successful article marketing?”, you would first have to ask, “What is your intention?”. If you only want to make affiliate commissions, and if you do that, then you are successful, even if you did not make use of the several other aspects it has to offer.
